Thanks for your question, Nishant. On moving from an IC role to an executive, I didn't write a chapter or post on that but I would say it first starts with a true love of the idea of being a servant leader. If you don't absolutely love working with people and you don't want to be responsible for their success as their manager, then you shouldn't do it. As my CEO coach, Kirk Dando, says it is true that far too many tacticians (i.e., ICs) get promoted into positions of management and leadership that they just weren't meant for. He says that only around 10% of ICs have that servant leader DNA that is needed to be a great manager. And then only 1% of them have that DNA that is a combination of being a great manager AND leader.
